BIOGRAPHY
I grew up in Michigan, earned a BA in fine art and education from Michigan State University, and thirty odd years ago left Lake Michigan to move to Aspen, Colorado with my spouse and four children.
I worked primarily in painting and drawing on canvas until immersing myself in painting on the ceramic surface. The contemporary use of the centuries old technique of Majolica has become my main vehicle for observing and celebrating natural forms.
Recent explorations have moved my work into combining metal, painting and clay. I have been grateful for the influences of many artists of Anderson Ranch, the Carbondale Clay Center and the generous ceramic community globally as well as in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am happy and grateful to be alive and able to do this uniquely human thing of making art. The processes of thinking, making and painting are at the core of my best days. I try to not take them for granted. We can't always choose to exactly do what we want but the times we can and act on it, are a gift. When I experience them I am charged with energy and time slips away. So I try to be free to choose, to be in my studio as much as I can, making, thinking , processing and accepting with as much grace as I can, the work that comes.
